Modalities Used
Our practice offers evidence-based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and third wave CBT approaches.
Supportive Parenting of Anxious Childhood Emotions (SPACE) tackles childhood anxiety through parent empowerment. Parents learn to be more supportive and reduce actions that can fuel anxiety, like avoiding triggers. This accommodation reduction fosters children's ability to develop coping mechanisms and manage their anxiety more independently.
Parent Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) is an evidence-based treatment aimed at young children (typically ages 2-7) who are experiencing behavioral problems. PCIT works to improve the relationship between a child and their caregiver by teaching positive interaction skills, leading to fewer outbursts and more cooperation and positive communication.
PCIT-SM, or Parent-Child Interaction Therapy Adapted for Selective Mutism, empowers parents to become active coaches using evidence-based CBT principles. Through engaging play therapy, parents learn practical skills to create a safe and supportive environment for their child. This approach helps children develop positive associations with speaking, gradually reducing anxiety and increasing their willingness to communicate in social situations. By focusing on communication attempts, PCIT-SM promotes the development of verbal skills and strengthens the parent-child bond. This generalized progress empowers children to confidently use their communication skills with various people, in different places, and across diverse settings, leading to increased confidence and improved communication for both child and parent.
EX/RP is a therapeutic approach used primarily for treating obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). It involves gradually exposing individuals to feared situations or thoughts while helping them refrain from engaging in compulsive behaviors. This process aims to reduce anxiety and break the cycle of obsessive thoughts and compulsive actions.
Exposure Therapy is a psychological treatment designed to help individuals confront and reduce anxiety related to specific fears or phobias. Through gradual and controlled exposure to the feared object or situation, patients learn to manage their anxiety and diminish their avoidance behaviors, ultimately leading to increased comfort and functioning in their daily lives.
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is an exposure-based model that empowers individuals to lead more meaningful and fulfilling lives. It encourages acceptance of uncomfortable thoughts and feelings while promoting mindfulness and present awareness. ACT helps individuals identify their core values and take consistent action aligned with those values. By building psychological flexibility, participants can effectively navigate life's challenges and enhance their overall well-being.
UP is a transdiagnostic, skills-based therapeutic approach for emotional disorders, treating a range of conditions, like anxiety and depression, using the same core set of skills. UP addresses the common underlying mechanisms emotional challenges share and equips individuals with practical tools to manage emotions and improve well-being.
